Priority of public audits in 2012 – accessibility and quality of public services

The National Audit Office has adopted its Public Audit Programme for 2012. According to the Auditor General Ms Giedrė Švedienė it is not less ambitious than the previous year programme. In 2012 we are planning to conduct 153 public audits out of which 40 will be performance audits and 113 financial (regularity) audits.

It is planned that financial (regularity) audits conducted by the NAOL will cover more than 90 per cent of the national budget expenditure including all the major state resources and tax funds. Professionally and in line with the international audit standards conducted audits of the mentioned funds will provide the public not only with objective and justified answers concerning reliability of the accounting of the collected revenue but will also help to formulate the audit opinion concerning reliability and compliance of the whole set of consolidated State accounts.  Read moreMore information

Programme of Museum Modernization is Implemented Ineffectively

National Audit Office has conducted audit of the implementation of the Programme of Museum Modernization 2007-2015 (Programme) and recommended the Ministry of Culture to update it also establishing modern quality requirements for museum buildings, expositions, management and services, updating qualification requirements for museum professionals, ensuring qualification development for museum staff and dealing with the issue of optimal museum network.

„The Programme is developed without having in place the strategy for museum development although this requirement is defined in the Law on Museums, its aims are not orientated towards concrete results, whereas evaluation criteria do not allow to evaluate the level of achievement of the Programme aims and objectives, therefore there are no sufficient prerequisites for the effective implementation of the Programme, said Deputy Auditor General Nijolė Mickuvienė when commenting on the audit conclusions.  Read moreMore information

Public audit experts of Lithuania will review the activities of the Supreme Audit Office of Poland

Representatives of the National Audit Office of Lithuania along with colleagues from Denmark, Austria and the Netherlands are invited to conduct a peer review in the Supreme Audit Office of Poland (SAO).

On 18-20 January the first meeting of the peer review working group chaired by Denmark took place in Warsaw. The peer review expert from the National Audit Office of Lithuania is the Director of Audit Development Department Mindaugas Macijauskas.  Read moreMore information

United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution on SAI Independence
18 January 2012

“SAIs can accomplish their tasks objectively and effectively only if they are independent of the audited entity and are protected against outside influence” - expressly recognized United Nations General Assembly in its resolution adopted in the end of December 2011.

According to the Auditor General Ms Giedrė Švedienė this resolution officially recognises united efforts of SAIs of different countries devoted to strengthening their independence and to achieving general recognition of the INTOSAI Mexico and Lima Declarations.  Read moreMore information
